”Worship During Distress” Psalms 120
This week we start a new summer sermon series entitled “Worship on the Way”. It will be a study from the Psalms of Ascent. This Sundays sermon is on Psalm 120. The outline with prayer prompts:
- TAKING OUR CONCERNS TO GOD
- v1-2 In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. Deliver me, O Lord, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.
- Prayer Prompt: Thank you that you are a God who answers. I confess my distress over the deception in the world, especially ______________________ Give me grace to trust in you.
- LOOKING TO GOD FOR JUSTICE
- v3-4 What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue? A warrior's sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree!
- Prayer Prompt: God, I trust that you are truth and you will judge those who deceive. God, I confess that I have used my tongue in deceitful ways. Please forgive me and have mercy on me.
- LONGING FOR HOME
- v5-6 Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace.
- Prayer Prompts: God, I am weary from living in this fallen, broken world. Fill my heart with anticipation for your restoration. Fill me with hope and joy.
- I AM FOR PEACE
- v7 I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war!
- Prayer Prompts: God, so often I want to ask you to change others, rather than asking you to change me. Help me to experience your peace so I can share it with others.
