This week we answer an important question for ourselves: Why do I go to church? Or, why am I listening to this sermon today? Our hope is that as we look together at Psalm 122 we will see that the Psalmist is happy to go to the House of the Lord because it reminds him of where he belongs, and what is his purpose. 1) Church gives us unity as we praise God and hear his truth. 2) Church gives our lives purpose as we live as ambassadors for God's peace.

This week we start a new summer sermon series entitled “Worship on the Way”. It will be a study from the Psalms of Ascent. This Sundays sermon is on Psalm 120. The outline with prayer prompts:
TAKING OUR CONCERNS TO GOD
v1-2 In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. Deliver me, O Lord, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.
Prayer Prompt: Thank you that you are a God who answers. I confess my distress over the deception in the world, especially ______________________ Give me grace to trust in you.
LOOKING TO GOD FOR JUSTICE
v3-4 What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, you deceitful tongue? A warrior's sharp arrows, with glowing coals of the broom tree!
Prayer Prompt: God, I trust that you are truth and you will judge those who deceive. God, I confess that I have used my tongue in deceitful ways. Please forgive me and have mercy on me.
LONGING FOR HOME
v5-6 Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! Too long have I had my dwelling among those who hate peace.
Prayer Prompts: God, I am weary from living in this fallen, broken world. Fill my heart with anticipation for your restoration. Fill me with hope and joy.
I AM FOR PEACE
v7 I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war!
Prayer Prompts: God, so often I want to ask you to change others, rather than asking you to change me. Help me to experience your peace so I can share it with others.
